Cohasset: Your Next Adventure Begins Here

Cohasset, MA has always been proud to welcome visitors and potential inhabitants. It is part of Norfolk County and has a population of 8,381 in the 2020 census. The city’s unique name dates back to the 1600s and is said to mean “long rocky place” or “fishing promontory.” Whatever the meaning, there is a certain charm and appeal in knowing its origin dates back to original settlers.

After several meetings and discussions regarding the ownership of the land where the town is, Cohasset was separated from the town of Hingham in 1770. However, it remained to be known as Hingham’s Second Parish. Together with the cities Hull and Hingham, Cohasset was originally a part of Suffolk County until 1803, when those other two towns were separated from Norfolk County.

Cohasset has a total area of 31.4 square miles which was mainly surrounded by water. The climate includes hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters. The school district is home to approximately 1,500 students throughout Osgood and Deer Hill Elementary Schools and a combined middle and high school.
